54th regular meeting

7 ppl attended

maintainathon recap

  • went well, people extended their code bases, wrote blog posts or did other useful things

  • posts were shared and some conversations took place

  • but: didn’t engage ppl outside of our group

  • ideas to improve:

    • maybe have a better outreach
    • connect with other social media events
    • maybe more advertisement beforehand
    • maybe also talk about it outside of social media, maybe ppl didn’t feel it was for them
    • ppl need to see the credit for them: give out stickers? badges?
    • ask departments and other institutions to join
    • maybe not just DigiArchMaintainathon, but maintainathon in general?
    • create SSLA swag, e.g. create stickers which we could send out and hand out at the conference
    • maybe output is missing? we could link to what people maintained to have a list of outputs
  • agreement: primary focus on Mastodon and britching to bluesky is enough

invited talks

  • Martin invited all 6 ppl we gathered last time (see here )

  • postiive answers:

    • Dries Daems will give a presentation on NASSA in June (but can be flexible)
    • Danlu Chen will give a talk in May
  • frequency of talks?

    • every second time, but there will be summer break so up to 4
    • we want the community feeling of talking with each other
  • talk ideas:

    • someone with information on CRAN / PyPy / package development
    • Matteo has another colleague who could give a talk on development of “little languages” for a specific task
  • topic of the talks we’ve invited are more on the side of digital infrastructure

  • ArcheOS (https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=archeos) has some new development

  • Martin will ask those we had gathered before related to infrastructure anew

CAA Vienna
